Technology Bond at Work at Traylor Fundamental Academy

We recently received a very exciting shipment of technology here at Traylor Fundamental Academy!

Thank you Denver voters for the generous resources in this bond.  Traylor decided to update our current computer lab with new Dell laptops.  In addition, we were able to purchase 160 Chrome Books (laptops) that will be available for all of our students to use.  What an exciting opportunity to engage our students with more opportunities to access computers each day!  We’ll be sharing more with you as our students begin to become familiar with and use the Google Drive in their technology studies!

Family Science Night – February 4

All Traylor families are invited to join us at the upcoming Community Resources Family Science Night on February 4th from 5:30 – 7:00 PM.

We will be serving free pizza, and you will get a chance to see live critters and much, much more!  Keep an eye out for a flyer and RSVP form coming home soon.  We hope you’ll join us at this SUPER SCIENCE NIGHT!

Traylor Supporting Our Colorado Community

Fall is definitely here in Colorado, and some in our state have been seriously impacted by the weather and flooding over the last few weeks.   At Traylor Fundamental Academy, our staff members, students and families have shown our potential for caring for our community – all around our state – by conducting a very successful book drive and money collection for Lyons Elementary school.  In its first week, we’ve already seen an awesome success.  We’ve already received over $100 and nearly 200 books!   Thank you for showing that our Traylor Tigers community leads with our hearts!   We’ll give you update about the totals for money and books donated as this drive continues.  Thanks to Ms. Barrera, Ms. Dunn, and Mrs. Kaspersen for organizing this service project!

Educating Your Child – in and out of the classroom – at Traylor Fundamental Academy

Did you know that at Traylor Academy we have included a 45-minute “DIVE” Block each day to our classroom schedule?  During this time, our teachers work together to make sure that all students are getting additional support and additional challenges to meet their goals.  If students need enrichment to reach new heights in their learning or need to be pulled out of the classroom for extra support, this is a time during the school day when they are not missing whole group instruction in reading, writing, math or other contents.  We are trying this effort this year to help our student grow each day!

Did you know that at Traylor Academy our students this year go to PE or PE/Dance each day for 25 minutes and they receive an additional 40 minutes each day of Library/Technology, Music, and Visual Arts in a rotation?  We value educating your children in a variety of ways at Traylor Academy, and we are very fortunate to have this schedule this year to ensure students are learning in and out of their assigned classroom.

This year, our student enrollment surpassed our projections at Traylor Fundamental Academy.  During September, we met with our staff members and our Collaborative School Committee to determine how we would allocate additional funds our school received to support our students.  We have added funds to accounts that will allow us to maintain and increase our field trips in all grade levels, purchase more classroom library books, and additional computers to increase our use of technology for all students.  Also, we will be adding additional paraprofessional positions to support students and teachers in their work at Traylor.  When we are fully staffed in our building this fall with these increases, we will have 13 paraprofessionals to support our classrooms, and many new computers in mobile laptop labs and in our classrooms, as well.

Conferences – October 15

You will be receiving information about our upcoming parent/teacher conferences on Tuesday, October 15 to schedule appointments between 12 PM – 8 PM.  Let your child’s teacher or the office staff know if you have any questions once you receive these notices.  We look forward to meeting with you at these upcoming conferences!

Traylor Academy Scholastic Book Fair – October 15th – 17th

Mrs. Eickman will preview the Book Fair items this year with students during their LMC/Technology classes by highlighting selected authors on October 9th, 10th and 11th.  Keep an eye out for Book Fair flyers that we will distribute to students to share with you soon.

Book Fair Hours

Tuesday, October 15th—Open during conferences (12:00-8:00 PM)

Wednesday-Friday, October 16th-18th—Open during student lunch times

Wednesday & Thursday, October 16th-17th—Open afterschool from 3:45-4:30

Traylor’s 2013 SPF Rating

The School Performance Framework (SPF) is a comprehensive system to help schools focus on strengths and areas for targeted improvement.  It takes into account a wide range of factors to give ratings on how well each school supports student growth and achievement and how well each school serves its students and families. The SPF is an important tool in measuring our progress toward achieving our district vision – EVERY CHILD SUCCEEDS.

Traylor Fundamental Academy achieved a rating of Meets Expectations (Green Status) on the 2013 SPF, which means that our school achieved Meets Expectations in Status, and Approaching in Growth in Student Achievement.  Our rating is a tribute to the hard work and dedication of our students, teachers, support staff and families.

While we celebrate this tremendous success, our goal is to exceed district expectations and achieve high status and high growth for all students.  In order to accelerate our progress and make sure that all of our students are successful, we will continue to work and strive for improvements in:

  • Student Engagement/Attendance
  • Students’ growth in Reading, Math and Writing, particularly our “Continuously Enrolled” students who have attended Traylor multiple years.
  • Parent Engagement.

We will be working to increase our great attendance at Traylor.  Please keep an eye out for our efforts from the office, teachers, and our school in this area to honor the positive on-time attendance of our students this year.  Also, our DIVE Blocks will help us to make sure all students are making gains and growing each year based on state and district assessments.  Finally, we are working to engage parents this year in a variety of ways.  We’ve invited you to Parenting with Love and Logic sessions, our Family Engagement Nights (like our Health and Wellness night), various volunteer opportunities in classrooms, and many staff members are participating in the Parent Teacher Home Visiting Program this year.  Please let me know if you can think of ways our school can improve our efforts to meet your needs and the needs of your children.  We appreciate the opportunity to work here at Traylor for the incredibly important purpose of preparing your children as the leaders of tomorrow!

Parent and Family Involvement is Key

Parent Teacher Home Visits and Volunteering in the Classrooms

Some of our teachers and staff are participating in the Parent Teacher Home Visit Project at Traylor this year.  We join over 40 other schools in the district (and countless more throughout the country) participating in this pilot this year.  Please give us feedback about your experiences with Home Visits!  All of our teachers are committed to getting to know our students and families.  So, whether your teacher is conducting home visits, or if you can come in to volunteer in your child’s classroom, we will appreciate the opportunity to get to know you and share your child’s education at Traylor Academy with you.

Parenting the Love and Logic Way

Last year we offered an English and Spanish session in Love and Logic for parents based on parent requests.  This is great opportunity to connect with other Traylor parents about some great strategies that can support all families and children.  We begin these sessions again this month on Thursday, September 12.  We will be offering sessions in Parenting the Love and Logic Way in English and Spanish this year.  There will be child care provided and the sessions are offered for free.  Parents will also receive a complimentary workbook from these sessions.  If you’re interested, please return your RSVP form or contact the office if you have any questions!

Community Resource Family Nights

Again this year, we will host at least three family engagement nights at Traylor to enhance academics and have fun together!  Our first event will be our Title I Family Health and Wellness Night. The event will take place on Tuesday, October 1 from 5:30 – 7:00 PM.  (Keep a lookout for the RSVP flyer going home soon!)  We will have a light dinner and a variety of fun activities for children and adults, including hip hop dancing, yoga and important information about dental health from the experts.  We hope you’ll join us!

Months at a Glance

Please look for the calendar of school events that will go home starting this month.  We will keep these updated throughout the year, and will send revised calendars of events as we plan more engaging activities for our students and families this year!  For some of the most up to date information about our school, please check out Traylor Academy’s websites: traylor.dpsk12.org!

Attendance/On-time arrival

Did you know attendance and on-time arrivals are integral to a child’s success this year and in his future success as a student?   This year, we are ringing our first bell at 8:53 AM, to allow for more transition time for our classrooms.  Students are on-time if they arrive before 9:00 AM.  Please make sure your children are on time and that they attend each day they’re well enough to be here.  We have so much fun at Traylor every day, and we don’t want any of our students to miss a thing!

Safety

Please make sure you follow all posted traffic and parking signs at our school.  We want all of our students and families to be safe at Traylor.  Please use the cross walks before and after school, park in legal parking spots (no double parking), and let our school office know if you have any questions or concerns.   We will be arranging additional crossing guard training in the next few months, so let us know if you’re interested in being trained and volunteering to help keep our school safe.
