Traylor will be on a delayed start this morning, Tuesday, November 17, based on the DPS Weather Delay Schedule. Buses will be delayed, and our school will start 1 hour later, at 10 AM. Thank you!
Winter is Coming! Check out the link and information below for up-to-date information about school closures and delays. This year, in the event of a weather delay called by DPS, Traylor Fundamental Academy will have a delayed bell time of 10:00 AM. (See below for more information.)
Prepare for Winter Weather (click here for more information!)
Denver Public Schools (DPS) officials want to remind families about school closure or delay procedures due to inclement weather. New this year is the weather delay schedule for identified schools, which will impact schools starting at 8:30 a.m. or later if a weather delay is necessary. Please know DPS is committed to informing families about school closures or delays as early as possible – with the goal to make the call by 4 a.m.
The decision to keep schools open or to close them during winter weather is made with one overriding factor in mind: the well-being of DPS students and their families. Schools are not only vital places of learning for students, but they also provide nutrition, health care, counseling and essential support services. Whenever possible, DPS strives to keep schools open. If schools are closed, all school-related activities that day – athletics, performances – are also canceled.
Weather delay schedule for identified schools:
This year, DPS is introducing a new weather delay schedule that will delay schools starting at 8:30 a.m. or later by one hour. All other schools will proceed with their normal schedule. For a full list of identified schools, click here. The purpose of this new delay schedule is to provide school buses additional time to pick up students and reduce student wait times in severe weather. For more information about the weather delay schedule, visit transportation.dpsk12.org/safety/weather.
How to find out about closures or delays:
- Local media - DPS Communications will immediately notify local television and radio stations, which will broadcast regular announcements of school closures. You can also visit DenverChannel.com, 9News.com, KDVR.com and denver.cbslocal.com. Notifications in Spanish will be made on radio newscasts on 1150 AM, 1280 AM and 1090 AM.
- DPS website - Emergency school closures and/or delays are quickly posted on the district homepage at www.dpsk12.org.
- DPS social media - Announcements to close or delay school will quickly be posted to Facebook @Denver Public Schools and Twitter @DPSNewsNow.
- District closure/delay hotline - A message announcing the closure or delay will be left on the school district’s closure hotline at 720-423-3200, as well on the DPS Transportation Services hotline at 720-423-4600.
- Automated calls and emails – Families who provide phone numbers or email addresses to schools will receive a phone call and/or an email announcing any closure or delay due to inclement weather.

BACK TO SCHOOL WELCOME LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL:

I am so grateful to be your principal, and feel proud of the hard work our staff does each day to support you and your children! Thank you for trusting us enough to allow us to support your children in their development as learners and great citizens. We’re looking forward to a school year that provides your child(ren) Joyful, Rigorous and Personalized learning opportunities!
Thursday Folders & Text Messages for School Information
We like to keep our parents & families updated about important events and information throughout the school year. To help parents know when essential communication is coming home, we will use Thursday Folders this year in all of our classrooms. Please look for the Thursday Folder each week, and return any important papers that need to be signed in that folder, starting on Friday. Our school also provides text messages periodically to families who would like to receive those. To receive messages via text from Traylor, please text @9bff0 to 81010. You can opt-out of messages at any time by replying, ‘unsubscribe @9bff0′.
2015-16 School Schedule and Breakfast in the Classroom/Snacks and Menus
This year, Traylor will have Breakfast in the Classroom. All students will be offered a nutritious breakfast each morning, after the first bell rings in their classrooms. Though students are not required to have breakfast, it will be offered (at no charge) to every student, every day. If you’re curious which items will be served, you can go to the DPS Food Services menu website: http://enterprisemanagement.dpsk12.org/food-services/menu/ We will also continue to have fruit or vegetable snacks four days a week, Tuesday – Friday. This year, we’ll be serving these snacks in the afternoon.
School Store (Mondays and Thursdays)
This year, we will continue to have a School Store in our cafeteria on Monday and Thursday mornings before school from 8:30 – 8:50 AM. Our dedicated staff will run the store, and students are able to purchase low cost, fun school supplies.
Citizenship Assemblies and PAWS
We love to celebrate our students at Traylor! In the first week of school, many students have received PAWS certificates for showing how they are Prepared, Accountable, Working Hard, and Supportive. Each week, we will have a drawing from all of the PAWS certificates, and those students drawn will receive recognition over the loud speaker, a sticker and a $1 Gift Certificate to the School Store. Ask your child about PAWS, and I’m sure they’ll be able to share even more about this recognition. Each month, we will recognize a few students in each classroom for being “Good Citizens.” We will host Citizenship Assemblies on the first Monday of each month, starting in October. These are very special awards, and classroom teachers will contact parents of the Good Citizens to make sure you’re given the date and time of the Citizenship Assembly.
