“Welcome Back, Traylor Family!”
At Traylor, all learners will be challenged, succeed and grow each day!
Traylor Fundamental Academy is an inclusive fundamental education program committed to high standards for our students and staff. We are dedicated to preparing and motivating our students to be the leaders of tomorrow by providing rigorous learning opportunities inside and outside the classroom each day!
BACK TO SCHOOL WELCOME LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL:
Welcome back, Traylor Students and Families:
Thank you for being a part of Traylor Fundamental Academy this school year. I am so grateful to be your principal, and feel proud of the hard work our staff does each day to support you and your children! Thank you for trusting us enough to allow us to support your children in their development as learners and great citizens. We’re looking forward to a school year that provides your child(ren) Joyful, Rigorous and Personalized learning opportunities!
Thursday Folders & Text Messages for School Information
We like to keep our parents & families updated about important events and information throughout the school year. To help parents know when essential communication is coming home, we will use Thursday Folders this year in all of our classrooms. Please look for the Thursday Folder each week, and return any important papers that need to be signed in that folder, starting on Friday. Our school also provides text messages periodically to families who would like to receive those. To receive messages via text from Traylor, please text @9bff0 to 81010. You can opt-out of messages at any time by replying, ‘unsubscribe @9bff0′.
2015-16 School Schedule and Breakfast in the Classroom/Snacks and Menus
This year, Traylor will have Breakfast in the Classroom. All students will be offered a nutritious breakfast each morning, after the first bell rings in their classrooms. Though students are not required to have breakfast, it will be offered (at no charge) to every student, every day. If you’re curious which items will be served, you can go to the DPS Food Services menu website: http://enterprisemanagement.dpsk12.org/food-services/menu/ We will also continue to have fruit or vegetable snacks four days a week, Tuesday – Friday. This year, we’ll be serving these snacks in the afternoon.
School Store (Mondays and Thursdays)
This year, we will continue to have a School Store in our cafeteria on Monday and Thursday mornings before school from 8:30 – 8:50 AM. Our dedicated staff will run the store, and students are able to purchase low cost, fun school supplies.
Citizenship Assemblies and PAWS
We love to celebrate our students at Traylor! In the first week of school, many students have received PAWS certificates for showing how they are Prepared, Accountable, Working Hard, and Supportive. Each week, we will have a drawing from all of the PAWS certificates, and those students drawn will receive recognition over the loud speaker, a sticker and a $1 Gift Certificate to the School Store. Ask your child about PAWS, and I’m sure they’ll be able to share even more about this recognition. Each month, we will recognize a few students in each classroom for being “Good Citizens.” We will host Citizenship Assemblies on the first Monday of each month, starting in October. These are very special awards, and classroom teachers will contact parents of the Good Citizens to make sure you’re given the date and time of the Citizenship Assembly.

Traylor Fundamental Academy Students Represent Denver SCORES at National Poetry SLAM! In New York City!
Two Traylor Academy students have been chosen to represent all of Denver SCORES at the National Poetry SLAM! in New York City, in all expenses paid trip by the America SCORES organization. Hilario Esparza and Analycia Baron, both Traylor 5th Grade students, will perform on April 13 at the Thomson Reuters Building in Times Square with 26 other scholar athletes from America SCORES programs throughout the county. They will be joined by Traylor’s SCORES writing coach and 2nd Grade Teacher, Debra Maldonado. This will be a red-carpet and star-studded event in New York City. The National Poetry SLAM! occurs each spring at venues such as HBO Studios, Harlem’s World Famous Apollo Theater and the New York Stock Exchange. Thousands of SCORES students take center stage at regional Poetry SLAM’s! for the opportunity to perform on a national stage—only 28 get the chance. With students performing their original poetry, the event showcases the power of America SCORES to improve lives while celebrating the achievements of these outstanding elementary school youth. The SLAM! is attended by SCORES families, coaches and teachers from around the country, as well as representatives of top corporate, finance, sports/brands. In 2014, we had our first live webcast of the event, sponsored by News Corp. This year, there will be another live webcast of the event on April 13, and our school community at Traylor Fundamental Academy will be tuning in to support our awesome students!
