2023-2024 Black Excellence Plan

Mission: Traylor exists to be a community school centered on kindness and respect.  We believe that we are better together than we are apart from each other and that everyone is welcome here.

Vision:   We strive to be the positive and inclusive “hub” of Bear Valley with academic, social/emotional, and enrichment support and services for students, staff, and families.

Because we are a school who serves a diverse population and cares about continually learning to show up the best we can for our students, we commit to the following actions as our Black Excellence Plan for this year.  These action steps will help our adults build learning, self awareness, and best practices to better meet the needs of our Black students and families.

Action Steps for Traylor Staff

• Attend a trauma-informed education professional learning conference led by a Black educator (Dr. DaMond Holt) to be listeners and learn about the lived experience of being Black in the United States
• Embed School Family practices from Conscious Discipline to foster a greater sense of safety, belonging, and welcomeness for our students
• Do an internal audit with our ROAR awards to ensure Black students are being celebrated for core values, attendance, and academics.  This also includes an audit of our behavior referrals to ensure Black students are not disproportionately disciplined as compared to their peers 
• Have a survey in which we ask Black students for their feedback around their sense of belonging and well being at school and create next steps from that to inform our school culture commitments
